Jakob Häglsperger AKA Kalipo is a busy man.
Operating as one third of German electro-punk band Frittenbude,
his solo alias was brought to life in 2014 with debut album “Yaruto”,
released on experimental label Antime Records.

The multi-faceted producer now returns to Audiolith with the “Wanderer EP”,
after having released the gorgeous “Mäusemarsch” this summer
on the label’s electronic-focused Stiff Little Spinners compilation series.

“Wanderer “is a restless record which sees Kalipo work his way
through the deeper ends of four to the flour
with a refreshingly experimentalist approach to production,
with defamiliarized samples and analogue gear running the show.

The music has changed since the Berliner’s debut album,
becoming more propulsive, more physical and geared towards the dancefloor.
Composed mostly on tour or over extended periods of travelling,
the track names on “Wanderer” each come with their particular story,
referencing places Kalipo has previously played or traveled to.

Monolithic opener “Donau Sunrise” sets the tone straight from the start
with sanguine arpeggiators that work their way across a mystical backdrop.
Melancholic themes infiltrate the cracks of the album and stand out tracks
“Banana Garden”, written when Kalipo was stuck in a bamboo hut
in the middle of thai jungle with a 40 degree fever and nothing else but headphones,
a sampler and penicillin for company, and the stunning
“Institute Of Cotton Wool” are set to become earworms of the highest order.

“Wanderer” sees Kalipo right in his element.
Tension builds and dissolves gracefully throughout
and the Berliner’s audacious approach to production
give his music an authentic and very recognizable feel,
one which is clearly Berlin-influenced
but which also evades the set templates.

Wanderer is out January 2016 on Audiolith.

It's been over a year since Kalipo has released his debut album »Yaruto« through the Berlin-based ANTIME imprint. Ever since then, the Bavarian-born Jakob Häglsperger has been quite busy, bringing his analogue live sets all over the globe while working on new material. Before some of that will be unleashed on another label very dear to the ANTIME crew, Kalipo returns with a 7 track EP which is mysteriously called »Yaruto B-Sides & Remixes«. When being asked for comment on the ominous title, the reclusive producer denied. It's up to every single one of you to interpret what on earth that might mean. However, a release date is set - »Yaruto B-Sides & Remixes« will be out digitally on Oct 30th - and contains 7 cuts clocking in at a generous 38 minutes.
The sample-heavy »Red Bird« is playful Deep House tune for those magic hours after the after-hours when the energy returns out of nowhere. Aplysia presents a Matthew Herbert-like re-interpretation of Kalipo's »Lux« complete with tinkling 8-bit sounds. »Paligula« leans more toward the spooky and sinister - imagine someone injecting some grooves into a New Wave track and you get the idea. Kalipo's long time friend KRINK takes on the Steve Reich-influenced »Get Rich«, boiling it down into a dubby, pschedlic trip best to be enjoyed at 4:20pm. »Alles Klar« highlights Häglsperger's talent to create driving yet minimalistic rhythms as well as his knack for weaving vocal samples into another as if those were meant to enter a dialogue some day. »Hello Night« however aims straight for a dancefloor near you, evoking both euphoria and melancholy at once. Occupanther offers another perspective on »Get Rich«: The Munich-based producer lets the piece unfold slowly before objecting it to a Hip Hop-leaning treatment which beautifully emphasises its harmonic and melodic qualities and perfectly closes this diverse selection of previously unreleased b-sides and remixes. Oh, wait. So that's why!

ComixXx - Broken Connection Feat. Pete Josef (Kalipo Remix)

Format: Download | Releasedate: 24.07.2015
After the long-awaited debut by ComixXx („The Great Escape“) on Sonar Kollektiv, we get another stunning single release with „Broken Connection“. Sung by Pete Josef this is one of many standout tracks of the 14 piece strong oeuvre.
The first remix is by Berlin producer Maurycy Zimmermann aka Mooryc. And he snatches right into his bag of tricks to pull out a bagpipe for the intro fanfare, or a vinyl crackling to lend the song some subtle nostalgia. It remains his very own secret though, where the hell he got that female voice from, that suddenly duets with Josef out of the blue. Anyway, the beat drags pantingly along the piano turning the rather cheerful original composition in next to no time into a bittersweet ballad.
Kalipo takes things not much less melancholic. The native Bavarian residing now in Berlin and known as a member of the electropunk outfit Frittenbude doesn't slows down the pace but uses subtly sprinkled synth chords lifting Josef's vocals through the clouds. A remix made for the wee hours of the morning after the party full of heartache and longing.
The third and last remix is done by Aanbreken. He also puts his full concentration on the vocals and builds his framework of slightly broken beats and distorted synths around them. The arrangement is the fine art of “tease & denial”.

B1 Krink - Close Distance 08:36
B2 Joney - K-Hole Surfers 07:08

Tracklist:
Stiff Little Spinners enters its 6th volume with a 5 track package spanning the widest sonic spectrum imaginable. Its tracks, in typical Spinners fashion, range from r&b influenced house grooves to shimmering, broken-beat, new-age garage swing.
Gimmix & Zorro prove their penchant for urban slow jams with a dance floor flavour. Their opener Oveile builds in a slow, sleazy fashion, eventually trading its more unpredictable drum arrangement for a sturdy 4/4 rhythm. The melody surges harmoniously, navigating the walls of its club-ready time signature, a phenomenal introduction to a mind-blowing collection of tracks.
Rampue slows things down on the A2 with Schleiermacherstrasse; a tripped-out, hazy roller with enough chime to hypnotise an entire stadium. This is not to say Volume 6 contains big room tracks, but rather the music’s power commands attention. This is certainly true for Kalipo’s Mäusemarsch, which whirls, in mesmerizing fashion achieving a climax fit for the party at its peak.
Krink’s Close Distance is perhaps the darkest sounding track offered by the Spinners – it seriousness and condensed energy is bound to leave audiences sweating, until its ferocious bassline gives way to soaring synths and jarred drums.
Joney changes the formula altogether – his sophisticated K-Hole Surfers offers a chugging, dubbed out roller which owes as much to techno as it does to dubstep. It is perhaps unsurprising from the track’s title that one feels like they are riding a rather erratic wave, delving in and out of our universe.
Already on their 6th volume, and churning out high-quality, club-ready tracks, this collective is set for big things.
